What people say about THCC

Experience Counts

Julie, Simon and Nick from Experience Counts – York

Julie, Simon and Nick run Experience Counts from the centre, which provides inspiration, motivation, training and support to the over fifties. Its programmes help members secure employment and/or find volunteering opportunities, and it can also help guide those interested into self-employment. To date, Experience Counts has helped more than 254 people and it’s currently running its 31st programme at THCC – on Wednesdays, between 9.30am – 12pm.

Julie says, ‘We were keen to deliver our programme in Tang Hall as we felt it was an unsupported area. What struck us about THCC was its welcoming and warm atmosphere – the supportive culture that’s woven into the very fabric of the building. It’s a friendly environment with a lovely ‘buzz’. There’s always something going off at the centre and we’ve enjoyed some great conversations in its corridors.

‘We’ve watched the centre develop and go from strength to strength; the pandemic only brought everyone closer together. We feel our work is supported and valued by everyone at THCC…there’s just something special about the place.’

Food Circle York

Joe from Food Circle York

THCC has been home to Food Circle York since 2017, and the social enterprise continues to grow and grow (quite literally – they have artichokes, leeks and more, in the centre’s raised beds). Their heart, like ours, is in Tang Hall, and their founder, Joe, will tell you why in this video.
